Bilingual Co-Training for Monolingual Hyponymy-Relation Acquisition
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper proposes a novel framework called bilingual co-training for a largescale, accurate acquisition method for monolingual semantic knowledge. In this framework, we combine the independent processes of monolingual semanticknowledge acquisition for two languages using bilingual resources to boost performance. We apply this framework to largescale hyponymy-relation acquisition from Wikipedia. Experimental results show that our approach improved the F-measure by 3.6–10.3%. We also show that bilingual co-training enables us to build classifiers for two languages in tandem with the same combined amount of data as required for training a single classifier in isolation while achieving superior performance.

Co-STAR: A Co-training Style Algorithm for Hyponymy Relation Acquisition from Structured and Unstructured Text
This paper proposes a co-training style algorithm called Co-STAR that acquires hyponymy relations simultaneously from structured and unstructured text. In CoSTAR, two independent processes for hyponymy relation acquisition – one handling structured text and the other handling unstructured text – collaborate by repeatedly exchanging the knowledge they acquired about hyponymy relations. Unlike co...

Objective Several studies have reported that bilingualism may affect cognitive processes. Second language acquisition takes place in a variety of ways. However, considering the fact that language training courses provided by institutes are expanding at a blistering pace, the effects of foreign language learning through the medium of language schools deserves a separate line of investigation in ...
متن کاملLearning Transferable Representation for Bilingual Relation Extraction via Convolutional Neural Networks
Typically, relation extraction models are trained to extract instances of a relation ontology using only training data from a single language. However, the concepts represented by the relation ontology (e.g. ResidesIn, EmployeeOf) are language independent. The numbers of annotated examples available for a given ontology vary between languages. For example, there are far fewer annotated examples...
متن کاملMinimally Supervised Multilingual Taxonomy and Translation Lexicon Induction
We present a novel algorithm for the acquisition of multilingual lexical taxonomies (including hyponymy/hypernymy, meronymy and taxonomic cousinhood), from monolingual corpora with minimal supervision in the form of seed exemplars using discriminative learning across the major WordNet semantic relationships. This capability is also extended robustly and effectively to a second language (Hindi) ...
متن کاملMetalinguistic Awareness and Bilingual vs. Monolingual EFL Learners: Evidence from a Diagonal Bilingual Context
This paper reports a study of 85 Iranian EFL learners in the English Language Department of Urmia University. It explores the possible differences between performance of 38 Persian monolingual and 47 Turkish-Persian bilingual EFL learners on metalinguistic tasks of ungrammatical structures and translation. The underlying hypothesis is that bilinguals in diagonal bilingual contexts experience a ...
